The SilverSneakers Annual Member survey is sent to seniors who are enrolled and have participated in our SilverSneakers fitness program. This uniform survey is completed on a national scale and provides meaningful data for this distinct population. The survey gains insights into how the SilverSneakers program impacts the health status of members through physical activity and program participation. Tivity Health uses this data to improve member experience and to identify opportunities to add innovative features to the SilverSneakers program.
The 2021 SilverSneakers Annual Member survey was sent to more than 8,500 seniors nationwide who are enrolled and have participated in the SilverSneakers fitness program. More than 2,100 members responded, providing important insights on how program participation and physical activity impacts their health. The survey seeks insights in four core areas: health status and functioning; exercise and program participation; program satisfaction and impact; and program awareness and features.
The survey indicates that SilverSneakers makes a measurable difference in members’ health, both physically and emotionally. Healthy Days among participants are 22% higher than the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) national benchmark. And, depression among participants is 64% less prevalent than the CMS national benchmark.
Membership in SilverSneakers can also help older adults get active – many for the first time in their lives. Thirty-four percent of participants report SilverSneakers is their first fitness membership, and 28% are new to regular exercise when joining the program and 34% report that SilverSneakers is their first fitness membership.
The Annual Member Survey also validates SilverSneakers as an attractive recruitment, retention and engagement tool for Medicare Advantage plans who offer the program. According to the responses, 58% of participants are likely to switch health plans if the program is no longer offered and 65% of participants cited the program as important to their health plan decision.
In addition to these findings, the SilverSneakers Net Promoter Score — which measures the likelihood that someone would recommend the program to a friend — is 83 up from 81 previously. This is an all-time high for the brand and reflects the trust and credibility that members have in the program, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2022.
