Understanding SilverSneakers members’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic

Despite the myriad of challenges seniors faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the clouds are beginning to lift as we begin seeing a return to “normal” lifestyles and activities. In Tivity Health’s latest SilverSneakers Pulse Survey, we polled hundreds of our SilverSneakers members regarding their experiences related to physical activity, nutrition, social engagement, and their overall health during the pandemic. Specific findings include:

  • Senior’s report exercising more than compared to the start of the year, although lack of motivation continues to be a barrier
  • Many seniors continue to participate in digital exercise offerings and more plan to continue digital as well as using the gym
  • Levels of food insecurity remain low, however, rates among low-income seniors are substantially higher
  • Fewer seniors experienced feelings of social isolation and are at their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic
